Dr. Shakthi Nataraj

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Shakthi Nataraj is a postdoctoral researcher for this project, focusing on the laws of sex work in India. She completed her Ph.D. in Anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley, along with a concurrent M.A. in Folklore studies. Her research examined the Transgender Rights Movement in Tamil Nadu, focusing on how linguistic practice and literary movements determine how people conceptualize bodies, sex, transition and social transformation in different cultural contexts. She is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Dickson-Pool School of Law, working on the Laws of Social Reproduction project. Her specific focus within the project is on sex work and how it can be reconceptualized as a form of reproductive labour and social reproduction.
